New Website
finally starting to get my act in gear. put up an almost-finished new website. it’s broken in ie8, and i will eventually figure that part out, but it looks not horrible in chrome or firefox.
anyway, this is where i warn you that this entry is about to go completely nerdy. those not interested in extremely technical bits, you may want to get on to your next thing.
so the new site was...
Stamp All The Things!
before i forget, opened up pre-orders for the (very) limited edition cd of the new album. this is going to be pretty special. hand stamped covers for starters. also some special things will be included as well.
so if you are so inclined and would like an actual physical thing, stop on by this store thing i setup.
again, this is a pre-order. the cd will ship later in january. i will, of course,...

What's The Farthest You Can See?
is out now!
grab a download from bandcamp, or on itunes. spotify, emusic, amazon mp3 are coming very shortly (they take a while.)
also pre-orders for the (very) limited edition cd will be going up soon.
also still trying to raise some money for the vinyl version, so if you are so compelled, do check out the kickstarter page for that.
i’d like to thank tom and the fade to yellow show...

Thankful
we’ve surpassed the first milestone, so the first backer’s song is underway and will be finished shortly. the track entitled, appropriately, “thankful” will be made available to backers via a download code.
the next milestone of $1500 is in our sights, and if you’d like to be a backer just click here and learn more about this project.
A Challenge
instead of just being passive and letting things lie, i figured it might be interesting to turn this kickstarter thing into a challenge.
here’s how it’ll work. there are three milestones set that at each the backers will get their own “secret songs.” unreleased of course, and will only be made available to backers.
the milestones are as follows:
$500, $1500, $2500.

Starting This Off
pulled the trigger. started a kickstarter project to see if we can’t get this new album pressed on some very tasty vinyl.
we are talking 180 gram vinyl, various colors etc. (naturally) heh i’m a record collector, i must have more colored vinyl!
if you feel so inclined, help spread the word, the project closes 30 December.
Release Data
getting closer to having “what’s the farthest you can see?” done and out.
here’s what’s actually coming out:
first, the album will be released on bandcamp
then released to itunes, amazon and emusic. the standard cd will also be released.
at about the same time the limited edition cd will be released. the limited edition cd will be pretty special. the packaging...

something new
something new is coming. it’s taking shape now. a transformation of sorts. the most significant development: this new thing is not a solo effort. i had some (much needed) help.
look for it later this year.

Advice: Do You Have Any?
i’ve been working on the new record. it’s pretty early in the process. what i’d like to ask is, do you have any advice you’d like to share for this next record? no, i’m not asking for things like “oh make a song that sounds like X” (but then i don’t want to suppress any opinion here, so have at it if that is your purgative.)
just general advice. i...
Neglectful Updates
hmm, haven’t been around in a while. life is crazy, action packed and hardly a moment to just stop and just stop. day job, grad school it’s all just been a haze of non-stop activity, stress and anxiety.
but, like most things, given enough time and work, things get better. and they do.
Within this blizzard of doing things, did manage to release a track as part of the ridiculously...

Recording
last weekend started recording two new songs. one of them is for the compilation being put out by the echelon effect and another for which will lead up to the next full length.
actually what i was thinking of is that after the compilation comes out i’ll release both songs on a 7” single. i do love me some vinyl.
anyway, the two new songs are, well, i’m pretty excited for them...

Kickstarter?
so about six months ago i tried, and failed at, a kickstarter program to raise funds for the vinyl pressing of DTSML.
what i was wondering is, would it be worth it to try again? with the record being out, i wonder if another attempt would get a bit more traction.
what i’d like to know is, and brutal, direct honesty works best here, would you be interested in supporting such an effort?

Writing
i just finished writing a song for the “Singularity” compilation. i like it. it’s kind of unusual. used an e-bow for many of the guitar parts, and the drum part is a bit different than what i’ve done in the past.
i have another song i’m working on which is about, hmm, 35% complete, which i’ll be heading into the studio at the end of this month to record...

Plans and Aspirations
Here we are, first week of the new decade under our collective belts and so far the new release, “do they still make lighthouses?” has been selling like hot cakes (at last count i saw that five copies were sold!) Heh, while I’m not making plans on quitting my day job just yet (ehh, that’s not even my plan… more on this later) there are a few things afoot around the...

Transparency
with the release of the new record, i wanted to take a second and just break down the actual income each sale generates. the TL;DR version is: hardly any.
should also state that any money that is made goes straight into getting the vinyl pressed (which is looking like around the $3,000 USD mark)
(figures are in USD, per unit sold)
Amazon CD: $1.65 Amazon MP3: $0.60 iTunes: $0.70 eMusic: $0.28...

Who To Tell?
so with the release of “do they still make lighthouses?” the “fun” part begins. how to get the word out, and who to tell (reviews, promotional outlets etc.). this is the part of the game i am, well, let me just say that i’m “all thumbs” at.
want to help? i could sure use it. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. yeah i just don’t have any...

Updating Things
getting ready for the official release of the new record. it’s coming. january (next month). things are looking decent.
of course the hardest part of this whole adventure is still to come. letting people know about it. i’m not terribly good at the whole public relations game and being a misanthrope and just generally not terribly popular i don’t know a lot of people and lack any...
